Wau Jalabudi
Wau Kucing, on the other hand, would carry out a ‘melodious’, high-pitched sound - like a cat’s mew. The significant of its hummer is that it was believed to be used to frighten away evil spirits and forecast the following day’s weather.
Believed to have come from Sulawesi, Indonesia, Wau Merak is flown mainly by the Bugis people after the paddy harvesting season. Taking in from the shape of a peacock, Wau Merak’s design consists of a balong (fowl’s crest) and the elaborated tale – with length four times the size of its body.
Wau Merak’s hummer can let out seven different melodies or tunes – made possible as the waoriginally played at night.

There are kites from all around the world, and kites filled with history and legends. for example, Wau Laga was used for battles once. Wau Laga is the perfect tool to compete against one’s opponent. The
aim is to break the rival’s strings and strive to bring their kites down onto
the ground.

Fact - in Japan, Edo Kite is flown over the sky as
a mediator between men and God; wishes, prayers and hopes are communicated via
the kites.
There
is also a collection of modern kites available. Visitors will also enjoy the
audio video display relating to the traditional kite, including the making of
one. Pasir Gudang is also the site of the acclaimed annual World Kite Festival
(Festival Layang-layang).kites from japan |
Cellular is a modern Cody kite here, which is basically a double box kite with wings. It's origins actually go back to the late 1800s as an observation platform for military use.
cellulars |
All kinds of Box kites are technically Cellulars, since there is usually one or more closed cells at the front of the kite and a similar arrangement at the back. For example, take the simple traditional Box kite...
The traditional Box has a single cell of rectangular panels at the front, and another identical one at the back. Most people can imagine what this kite looks like, because they have been used in illustrations almost as much as the very well-known Diamond!
The Sode kite Otherwise known as the Kimono kite due to its resemblance to that Japanese garment, the Sode has often been copied in the West. It's not unknown for a large Sode to be spotted at a kite festival. The rectangular areas of sail make a good canvas for artistic expression!
Sode kite |
Interestingly, all our building and flying are made out of simple Diamonds. Manyother designs can have their quirks and give trouble when built from scratch by inexperienced fliers. No wonder the Diamond is so popular. The larger ones which break down for transport are very quick to set up too.
With accurately made modern materials, Diamond kites can have quite a good wind range, although they don't necessarily fly at very steep line angles.
In some corners of the world, you might hear a Diamond referred to as an Eddy kite There are a number of similarities!
the Diamond kite |
The roller kite is an efficient light wind kite that can be adjusted for flying in stronger winds, the Roller has its roots in pre-War Germany.
With its tail-less design and steep flying angles, this kite is handy for flying in confined areas.
